What do you love about acting?
We have the ability to use our imaginations to actually think like the characters we are being asked to play, to imagine the seminal scenes from their lives that consciously or subconsciously dictate their behavior.
What do you love about LA?
It’s a dynamic place. You can chase rainbows out here if you want. There’s a lot to see. That’s why I came here to begin with. Everything’s twinkled and sparkled.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
Don't mistake a lifestyle for a life.
What are the best and worst investments that you’ve made?
Best investment is in myself. Worst investment I ever made dollar for dollar was when there were a number of tech start ups that seemed like good ideas at the time but they weren’t.
What’s the difference between a fantasy and an idea?
An idea is something organized and based in more systematic thinking. A fantasy is something that just occurs. It can occur at any moment. And it’s just almost always anarchic.
What is your ideal state of existence?
If life and work could intersect and flow together, that would be ideal.
What do you love about humanity?
Our intellect enables us to have this fascinating dialogue about who we are and why we’re here, to discover in deeper and deeper ways what exactly life is all about.
What advice would you give to young creators?
Whatever you do, whether you are an architect, or designer, or painter, or composer, basically it comes down to the same thing: to create.
What excites you about your artistic process?
The excitement is that you are putting yourself at the mercy of the unknown... As opposed to endlessly repeating something that you’re good at, receiving accolades because you’ve met the outside world’s expectation.
How have your ideas evolved?
I continue to try my best every time I’m presented with a new opportunity. Sometimes you give the right thing and it is received exactly the way you intended, sometimes it’s not.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received so far?
Whenever someone tells you how to run your business, just respond politely with, “That’s interesting, thanks for the advice.”
